What this Act says

Consolidates 13 labour laws on factories, mines, contract labour, migrant workers and welfare — sets working hours, safety standards, leave and welfare obligations.

• Contravention causing death

  §94

  Imprisonment up to 2 years and/or fine up to ₹5 lakh (minimum ₹50,000 paid to legal heirs).

• Contravention causing serious bodily injury

  §94

  Imprisonment up to 1 year and/or fine up to ₹3 lakh.

• Failure to comply with safety / hours / welfare provisions

  §95

  Fine up to ₹3 lakh; on repeat — imprisonment up to 6 months and/or fine up to ₹4 lakh.

• Obstructing inspector-cum-facilitator

  §95(3)

  Imprisonment up to 3 months and/or fine up to ₹1 lakh.
